The Reformed Presbyterian Church of North America is a branch of the visible Church of Jesus Christ. Our beliefs all stem from a full commitment to the authority of the Bible as the inerrant, infallible Word of God. This means that we believe in the Triune God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We acknowledge our total inability to save ourselves and, in faith, depend on Christ alone as our Savior. We acknowledge Him as Covenant Lord in every area of life, and we vow together to advance His Kingdom on earth.

We believe that God desires His Church to set forth clear statements of her system of doctrine that can be supported from Scripture. We therefore accept as our creed, or subordinate standards, The Westminster Confession of Faith and the Larger and Shorter Catechisms. In addition to these doctrinal statements, we adhere to the Testimony of the Reformed Presbyterian Church of North America, which is our continuing application of God's written word to the world and the Church of today.

We believe that God's Word clearly sets forth how He is to be worshiped. The reading and exposition of the Word of God are the central focus of our worship. Our musical praise employs God's Word only, thus making use of divinely inspired Book of Psalms of the Bible. In keeping with the New Testament Church's directive for heart worship, we sing without the aid of musical instruments.

Reformed Presbyterians have also been referred to historically as Covenanters because of their identification with public covenanting in Scotland, beginning in the 16th century. This act was a protest for Christ's crown rights over the state and the recognition of Christ as King over the Church without interference from the government. In 1743, the first Reformed Presbyterian congregation was organized in North America. In this continent, too, the Kingship of Christ has been maintained as a foundational principle of our denomination.

The Butterfield Family

Kent is an associate pastor to Trinity Reformed Presbyterian Church in Beltsville with the specific task of church planting in Purcellville, VA (Loudoun County). Pastor Kent Butterfield lives in Purcellville with his wife Rosaria and three adopted children, Suzanne, Christopher and Alicia. Kent graduated with a Master of Divinity from the denomination’s seminary the Reformed Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Pittsburgh, which will celebrate its bicentennial in 2010.

Kent was converted at the age of seventeen through a radio ministry. After graduating in 1985 from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill with a B.A. in History, he worked in various fields including property management, insurance, and customer service jobs. Kent received baptism in the Orthodox Presbyterian Church and was a lay church planter in the Presbyterian Church in America before joining the Reformed Presbyterian Church of North America. He is a founding member and former ruling elder of Triangle Reformed Presbyterian Church in Morrisville, NC.

His wife Rosaria is a former English professor at Syracuse University. After her conversion she developed a ministry to college students with the oversight of her elders. She also taught and ministered at our denomination’s college—Geneva College. She is a full time mother, part time author, and occasional speaker to women’s groups. Rosaria excels in reaching out to others and welcoming them into the congregation and into our home. She also helps immensely in our congregational singing.

The Reformed Presbyterian Church of North America is a small denomination but an intimate one where no congregation is forgotten, and prayer and support (spiritually and physically) is given to all the congregations regardless of size. The denomination has remained very faithful through God’s grace over its history of existence – over 200 years in the US. All churches need to grow spiritually and continue to reform in practice and teaching.

Our ministry centers on the proclamation of God’s word and the testimony of Jesus Christ. We have a weekly worship service and frequent extended times of fellowship. Hospitality is a major aspect of our ministry and outreach. We believe in getting to know people and befriending others to make a difference in their lives and to truly minister to them in both word and deed.

Mercy ministry has been an ongoing ministry of the church. Mercy work makes sincere the profession of our lips. It is also a command of God to relieve others in their suffering and to make a difference in the world through our faith in Christ Jesus.

Our website is designed to help provide basic information of who we are and what is our purpose as a church. Yet, you will not know the full essence of the church or the people who make it up with out visiting for a period of time. Please join us in worshipping God and fellowship and ministry. We seek to glorify Christ and to honor our God and our fellow man.
